Addiction and Trauma: Current Perspectives and Hope for Healing Wounds

Addiction and Trauma: Current Perspectives and Hope for Healing Wounds

Jonathan Taylor

Much has been learned about the brain and body and how addiction affects them. Older points of view on addiction as purely a ‘brain disease’ are strongly challenged by more recent research that shows addiction’s complex relationship with emotion, learning, and relationships.

This presentation will explore some of the more recent paradigms that better explain how addiction works in the brain and how addiction and trauma impact individuals and relationships. We will also focus on what a new understanding about addiction, relationships, trauma, and emotions reveals about how many people actually heal from addiction and how relationships are actually repaired in recovery.

Jon is the Program Director at Healing Paths, Inc. an outpatient clinic in Salt Lake City, Utah that specializes in addiction recovery, relationship repair, and healing from trauma. Jon works with clients and couples experientially and has presented on those methods and frameworks at IITAP Symposia and at the 2017 SASH Conference.
