Connecting with Your Body, Mind, & Soul Through Yoga

Katy Willis

An article in the medical journal Complementary Therapies in Medicine concludes, “Overall, current findings increasingly support yoga and mindfulness as promising complementary therapies for treating and preventing addictive behaviors,” and Dr. Bessell Van Der Kolk, clinical psychiatrist and pioneer in trauma healing said, “Our research showed that a steady yoga practice for a traumatized person is [a] more effective [treatment] than any medication that anybody has studied.”

In this session, we will explore the ancient science of yoga. We break down the big components of yoga and discover the basic physiology behind each one with our presenter who is not only a yoga instructor, but also a retired cardiac nurse. We will be led through a breath exercise and two meditations. This session includes a packed handout with additional resources to begin a simple daily yoga practice or start sharing the basics of yoga with clients and those we love.
